Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after March of 2023.

The win also means he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
